\"\"<\/a>Yes.\u00a0 Finally.\u00a0 You may say offseason, but The Machine says Draft Season.\u00a0 You may also be wondering:\u00a0 Why hasn\u2019t The Machine put up a mock draft yet?\u00a0 Are we lazy (no way [grabs another beer]).\u00a0 Did we lose our love for the Draft (not a chance).\u00a0 Then what is it?\u00a0 Well, we respect the Draft so much that putting up a mock draft before free agency starts is moronic.\u00a0 Like, really dumb.\u00a0 Like, is the dress blue or white dumb (who gives a shit)?<\/p>\n

Sorry, mock drafts before free agency are pointless. \u00a0And we openly judge any mock draft before the combine. \u00a0Teams fill their needs through free agency first, then the draft.\u00a0 Query:\u00a0 is anyone going to be mocking a WR to the Jets anymore?\u00a0 Exactly.<\/p>\n

But what, then, can we do with our time?\u00a0 Great question.\u00a0 Maybe we can watch some spring training [laughs hysterically].\u00a0 Well, while you wait for The Machine to put up its first mock and details for The Machine\u2019s Draft Party, sit back and , it\u2019s not too early to analyze a prior draft.<\/p>\n

Given all the preparation, analysis, and studying that teams do, you\u2019d think that drafting (at least in the first round) would be a slam dunk.\u00a0 But, as The Machine will show you, that\u2019s not exactly the case.<\/p>\n

Drafts, like that fine box of white zin you have in your fridge, take time to mature.\u00a0 A good rule of thumb is it takes three years to give a true analysis of a draft.\u00a0 Instant analysis of a draft is dumb.\u00a0 Like, really dumb.\u00a0 Case in point:\u00a0 3 years out, it\u2019s unquestionable that the Seahawks had the best draft, drafting Bruce Irvin, Bobby Wagoner, and Russell Wilson with their first 3 picks.\u00a0 However, the instant analysis of the 2012 Draft<\/a> was harsh.\u00a0 Kiper gave them a C-, Pete Prisco graded the Wilson pick a D (I mean, they had Matt Flynn, what were they thinking?), and SB Nation gave them an F.<\/p>\n

With that said, let’s take a look at the 2012 and see how the experts did.<\/p>\n

First, wow.\u00a0 Ok, Luck\u2019s legit and Kuechly\u2019s a stud, but what about the rest?\u00a0 Blackmon\u2019s not even in the NFL anymore (so much for those background checks) and Trent Richardson just joined him on the unemployed line.\u00a0 RGIII?\u00a0 The Cowboys traded up to grab Claiborne, and he\u2019s been a huge disappointment.<\/p>\n

The rest of the first round isn\u2019t that pretty.\u00a0 Brandon Weeden just turned 60, and he\u2019s a career backup qb, David Wilson\u2019s already retired, and several other players haven\u2019t made much of an impact.\u00a0 Number of pro bowlers from the first round?\u00a0 6.\u00a0 That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n

Ever wonder why the Browns always suck? \u00a0It starts with inept management.<\/p><\/div>\n

Upon review, the 2012 Draft sucked.\u00a0 For all the scouting and sleepless nights in the war room, a lot of teams (cough, Cleveland Browns, cough) got it wrong.\u00a0 The Machine grades the first round a D.\u00a0 The best player (Russell Wilson) wasn\u2019t drafted until the third round.\u00a0 And despite 4 receivers drafted in the first round, the best one (Alshon Jeffrey) was drafted in the second round.<\/p>\n
