What\u2019s more annoying than a former professional athlete complaining about present ones?\u00a0 Nothing, really.\u00a0 But what makes it super annoying is when said former athlete is (a) on TV every Sunday, (b) generally obnoxious, and (c) has a hidden agenda.\u00a0 Cue Terry Bradshaw.<\/p>\n
Bradshaw recently complained about Drew Brees\u2019 record breaking 48 straight games with a touchdown pass, and how he was \u201cupset\u201d with how Drew made such a spectable of the whole thing by lobbying to have Sean Payton in the stands to watch him break the record.\u00a0 Fine.\u00a0 You think it was over the top, self-serving, a little presumptuous, perhaps?\u00a0 Possibly.\u00a0 However, when Drew broke the record (hey Terry, since he did it 47 fucking times in a row, it was a pretty good presumption) there was no on field celebration.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t stop the game, or have a special celebration.\u00a0 People clapped, and Fox went to commercial.\u00a0 That\u2019s it.\u00a0 So what\u2019s the big deal?\u00a0 What’s really bugging Terry?<\/p>\n
It seems what\u2019s really bothering Terry is the fact that these records are being broken in the first place, thus pushing former players (ahem) deeper into obscurity.\u00a0 And what better way to discredit the modern players than calling into question the institution of records.\u00a0 Said Terry, \u201cI’m not much on that stuff … I’m not into records, fellas. \u00a0I’m just into winning football games.\u201d\u00a0 The has been continued, \u201cI’m not into records, I’m into winning Super Bowls … These things aren’t important. \u00a0We lose sight of why we play. \u00a0We play to win and to win championships, not to break records.\u201d<\/p>\n
Well, The Machine is here to call bullshit on good old Terry.\u00a0 You see, two days after Terry made those remarks, Ben Roethlisberger set the Steelers all-time passing record.\u00a0 Whose record did he break, you ask?\u00a0 You betcha, Terry P. Bradshaw\u2019s.\u00a0 Coincidence?\u00a0 Come on, son.\u00a0 The transparency is laughable.<\/p>\n
So, when your record is about to be broken, all of a sudden records don\u2019t matter anymore?\u00a0 And, instead of being humble and magnanimous like say\u2026Johnny Unitas (who was an absolute pro and handled Brees breaking his record with a sense of class and professionalism that is beyond Terry), you undermine your record breaker, in a completely dickish way.<\/p>\n
Hey Terry, The Machine will let you in on a little secret.\u00a0 The Steelers won 4 Super Bowls in the 70\u2019s despite you, not because of you.\u00a0 Your 12.25 completions in those Super Bowls hardly made a difference (don\u2019t worry, you don\u2019t hold the record for worst performance by a Steelers QB in a Super Bowl\u2026Big Ben beat you there as well).<\/p>\n
No Terry, you\u2019re just a sad, bitter man that won\u2019t let go of the past, which is funny, seeing as how you have no problem letting go of your failed marriages (Super Bowls 4, ex-wives 3).\u00a0 Records, like your marriages,\u00a0are made to be broken.\u00a0 Get over it.<\/p>\n
