{"id":1788,"date":"2014-09-27T23:12:52","date_gmt":"2014-09-28T03:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/?p=1788"},"modified":"2014-09-27T23:12:52","modified_gmt":"2014-09-28T03:12:52","slug":"heres-a-crazy-idea-start-blake-bortles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bigredsportsmachine.com\/?p=1788","title":{"rendered":"Here&#8217;s a crazy idea: Start Blake Bortles!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The great thing about fantasy football is that in the short\u00a0time span of just three weeks your best laid plans can get totally fucked!\u00a0 Like having to start a rookie quarterback, making his first ever start, on the\u00a0road against a perennial playoff contender fucked.\u00a0 Pardon my french.<\/p>\n<p>With stud Russell Wilson on bye, and not wasting a second roster spot on a back up quarterback, I&#8217;m rolling with Mr. Bortles this week.\u00a0 It sounds crazy, but this what the No. 3 overall pick has going for him:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In relief of the dreadfully inefficient\u00a0(and that&#8217;s the nice way of putting it) Chad Henne, Bortles\u00a0went 14\/24, 223 yards,\u00a02 TD,\u00a02 Int.\u00a0 Impressive numbers for a half\u00a0of football; granted it was against soft coverage schemes from Indy&#8217;s defense (they aren&#8217;t\u00a0exactly world-beaters).\u00a0 But what I like the most is the 2 rushes for 30 yards.\u00a0 The rushing totals help eliminate the mistakes and give him a reasonable secure scoring floor.<\/li>\n<li>Bortles\u00a0showed well in training camp, the preseason, and practices this year.\u00a0 By all accounts he&#8217;s outpracticed\u00a0Henne\u00a0(doens&#8217;t\u00a0that go without saying) however the Jaguars were so gun-shy\u00a0to start a rookie QB (we call that the Blaine Gabbert\u00a0effect)\u00a0that they all but committed to &#8220;red-shirting&#8221; Bortles\u00a0this year.\u00a0 Remember what I said three weeks of football could do to your fantasy team?\u00a0 Yeah, now just multiply\u00a0that but $100 million, add in media scrutiny, a fan base\u00a0to contend with, an owner that can shitcan\u00a0you whenever he wants and you get a sense of the pressure that forced the Jags hand to play Bortles this week.\u00a0 No pressure kid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_1795\" style=\"width: 287px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/bortles-01.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1795\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1795\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/bortles-01.jpg?resize=277%2C182&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Not Blaine Gabbert...trust me!\" width=\"277\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1795\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Not Blaine Gabbert&#8230;trust me!<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>In deeper leagues, Bortles\u00a0(17% owned)\u00a0offers more upside than the likes of Joe Flacco\u00a0(38%), Josh McCown\u00a0(16% &#8211; who appears to have lost his job to Glennon), Ryan Fitzpatrick (15%), Geno Smith (13%) and fellow rookies Teddy Bridgewater (12%) and Derek Carr (7%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My one reservation in starting Bortles\u00a0is San Diego&#8217;s, ball-control, clock-chewing offense\u00a0which ranks second in the league (while the Jags rank&#8230;.dead last.\u00a0 What&#8217;s new!).\u00a0 Regardless, Bortles\u00a0will have opportunities, and I think (fingers crossed) he comes through.\u00a0 If Bortles\u00a0football game is anything like his mack-daddy\u00a0game, then hell, we&#8217;ve got nothing to worry about&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1796\" style=\"width: 314px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/mrs-bortles-04.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1796\" class=\"wp-image-1796 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/mrs-bortles-04.jpg?resize=304%2C166&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Good Knight!\" width=\"304\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/mrs-bortles-04.jpg?w=304&amp;ssl=1 304w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/mrs-bortles-04.jpg?resize=300%2C163&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1796\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Good Knight!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0This might be so crazy that it actually works!
