Come on, guys.\u00a0 This one\u2019s a no brainer.\u00a0 Nice try Michael Pineda for your Pine Tar Neck trick\u2026but oh no, this Teabag\u2019s all Donald\u2019s.\u00a0 For those of you who need a refresher, our friends at Deadspin have the audio queued up<\/a> for your listening pleasure.\u00a0 It\u2019s worth a listen. On the one hand, The Machine\u2019s not surprised when anyone over the age of 60 makes a racist comment.\u00a0 Being old is no excuse, but when you hear \u201c80-year-old white guy doesn\u2019t like the blacks\u201d; it\u2019s abhorrent, but not necessarily surprising.\u00a0 However, when said 80 year old white guy happens to be the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, well now you got a story.<\/p>\n

Who would’ve thought this wouldn’t last?<\/p><\/div>\n

Donald was (can we stop using the word allegedly now?) recorded by his (now ex) girlfriend, essentially telling her to stop bringing black people to Clippers games and stop openly associated with them.\u00a0 Huh?\u00a0 How can someone who\u2019s a multi-millionaire, a successful business owner, the owner of a professional sports team (whose players are predominantly minorities) and who received a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP, hold such bigoted views?\u00a0 Why is he sharing said views with his (several) decades younger, mixed-race girlfriend?\u00a0 How does one get a (several) decades younger mixed-race girlfriend?\u00a0 Did he think that was going to end well? Answer to the above questions:\u00a0 Money. Money can cure all evils (correction:\u00a0 now that he\u2019s banned for life from the NBA, money can cure most evils).<\/p>\n

You see, here\u2019s the thing about Donald Sterling:\u00a0 his history of racism, sexual harassment, and general douch-bagedness is well documented.\u00a0 Like here<\/a>.\u00a0 And here<\/a>.\u00a0 And here<\/a>.\u00a0 And here<\/a>.\u00a0 When he received the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, he paid a record $2.725 million to settle a housing discrimination lawsuit, where there were some pretty compelling allegations that he discriminated against minorities, particularly black families.\u00a0 Why, and how, did he receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NAACP?\u00a0 We believe the answer is also set forth above.\u00a0 (Note to NAACP:\u00a0 perhaps you should change your nominating criteria\u2026just sayin\u2019). But society simply could not tolerate this latest go-around.\u00a0 Because of the audio evidence, and not some settlement agreement where the parties deny any liability but then pay a shit-ton of money, the NBA was forced<\/span> had to act.\u00a0 They simply could not turn another blind eye.\u00a0 And there\u2019s something about comeuppance for an Octogenarian that bangs models that just sits right with us.<\/p>\n

Another question: \u00a0Does Donald give a shit?\u00a0 He\u2019s still rich as hell, and, if<\/span> when the NBA forces him to sell the Clippers, he\u2019ll make even more money.\u00a0 And, he\u2019ll still be able to find a (several) decades younger, hot girl to bang.\u00a0 So, on that level, probably not.\u00a0 But, for losing corporate sponsors, coupled with total public humiliation and disgrace, probably so.\u00a0 A man who\u2019s use to buying his way out of trouble can no longer do so.\u00a0 That\u2019s what The Machine thinks will kill him the most. Anyway, the NBA brought down the hammer on the Donald.\u00a0 A lifetime ban.\u00a0 That\u2019s a steep price for one\u2019s views.\u00a0 But really, how long is that?\u00a0 Dude\u2019s 80.\u00a0 And, let\u2019s not fool ourselves to thinking this is over.\u00a0 Do you think that Sterling\u2019s going to go away quietly?\u00a0 Do you think he\u2019s afraid of protracted litigation?\u00a0 If he\u2019s smart, he just goes away.\u00a0 But, if the last few days have told you anything, doing the right thing doesn\u2019t exactly come natural to him.<\/p>\n

Do you think he thinks he\u2019s not a racist because he bangs minorities?\u00a0 Do you think Thomas Jefferson thought that too?\u00a0 Yeah, we just went there.<\/p>\n

Our final thoughts:\u00a0 As with most controversies, The Machine hates both extremes, and it\u2019s no different here.\u00a0 \u00a0To the freedom of speech<\/a>, First Amendment idiots (who are presumably Tea Partiers): shut up.\u00a0 This has absolutely nothing to do with the First Amendment, and if you can\u2019t understand why, well then you are hopeless.\u00a0 And, for the record, even if it did involve the First Amendment, the First Amendment, and all the other freedoms enjoyed in the Bill of Rights, are not absolute.\u00a0 Try yelling \u201cbomb\u201d in an airport and then assert your First Amendment Rights.<\/p>\n

Also, for the people (mainly liberal media) crying that this should have been done sooner, shut up.\u00a0 Where were you in 2009 when Sterling was honored by the NAACP?\u00a0 Where was your outrage?\u00a0 How come only now it\u2019s obvious?\u00a0 And give credit to Commissioner Silver for the action he took.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t have to impose this type of sanction.\u00a0 He had a wide range of discretion.\u00a0 He chose to impose the most extreme measure, a $2.5 million dollar fine (the highest allowed under NBA rules) and a lifetime ban.\u00a0 This is quick, decisive, and just action for a man who\u2019s been on the job for three months (well-played, David Stern). One thing we all can agree on:\u00a0 the NBA, and aspiring models in Hollywood, are better off without Donald Sterling.<\/p>\n
