\"Draft<\/a>If you have been preparing and\/or studying mock drafts prior to March 11, 2014, The Machine\u2019s here to tell you\u2019ve wasted your time (do you hear us McShay\u00a0and Kiper?).\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because mocking before free agency starts is worthless.\u00a0 Teams will first fill their needs through free agency, then the Draft.\u00a0 Need proof?\u00a0 Check how many pre-March 11 drafts had the Patriots taking a corner.\u00a0 Almost all of them.\u00a0 Now that Revis\u00a0Island is heading to Foxboro, do you think the Pats will address that in the first round?\u00a0 Same with Detroit.\u00a0 Everyone had them taking a WR, but now that they have Golden Tate to play opposite Megatron, they will also fill other needs.<\/p>\n

But we digress.\u00a0 Anyway, here is The Machine\u2019s first official mock draft of 2014.\u00a0 We will be updating as free agency continues and pro-days are held, so check back for the latest updates in our award-winning Drafts.<\/p>\n

Update [3\/19\/2014]: <\/strong>Can you imagine a world ruled by gingers? Scary thought, right?\u00a0 It would probably look something like this:<\/span><\/p>\n

Houston, we have a problem…..(and it’s not who to take first overall)<\/p><\/div>\n

A ginger-only mock draft is almost<\/em> as frightening!\u00a0 That’s why Roid Rage is here to add a bit of sanity to this mock draft.\u00a0 I’ll play the Lone Ranger to GK’s Tonto!\u00a0 Saddle up…..<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Houston<\/td>\nJadeveon\u00a0Clowney (DE, South Carolina): <\/strong>QB is tempting (and a need), but is there a QB worthy of begin #1 overall?\u00a0 No doubt Jadeveon\u00a0is the best athlete in the draft.\u00a0 There\u2019s also no doubt defense wins championships (see Seahawks, Seattle).\u00a0 In the end, Houston cannot pass up the once in a generation DE.<\/td>\nJadeveon Clowney (DE, South Carolina):<\/strong>\u00a0 We’re in agreement with the first pick.\u00a0 Pairing Clowney with JJ Watt is a match up nightmare for every offense in the league.\u00a0 If not Clowney, then Bortles.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2. St. Louis<\/td>\nJake Mathews (OT, Texas A&M):<\/strong>
\nSt. Louis is in a prime spot to trade this pick (we\u2019d be surprised if they didn\u2019t).\u00a0 They have two first round picks (thanks to the steal of a trade they made with Washington).\u00a0 Apparently, St. Louis is looking to give Sam Bradford one more shot at being \u201cthe guy.\u201d\u00a0 If they stay put, Jake Mathews is a safe pick that will provide instant protection for Sam.<\/td>\n		Greg Robinson (OT, Auburn): <\/strong>While I agree with Ginger that OL is a priority, I prefer the upside that Greg Robinson offers.\u00a0 Much like the 2010 Draft, when (pre-draft) everyone had Russell Okung as the “top tackle” only to see the “higher upside” Razorback Williams go 4th overall, two spots ahead of Russell.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3. Jacksonville<\/td>\nTeddy Bridgewater (QB, Louisville): <\/strong>The Jags are in a familiar spot, with their sixth consecutive Top 10 pick.\u00a0 The Blaine Gabbert Experience has ended, and QB is the most pressing need.\u00a0 Question is: which one?\u00a0 My money\u2019s on the one that\u2019s the most NFL ready.\u00a0 And that\u2019s Teddy Bridgewater.\u00a0<\/td>\nBlake Bortles\u00a0(QB, UCF):\u00a0 <\/strong>Gus Bradley will be pounding on the table for Clowney (should he fall) or Khalil Mack (should he fall).\u00a0 But given the state of the franchise, QB has to be the pick.\u00a0 Bortles has the size, arm talent, awareness and willingness to hang in the pocket to be cornerstone pick.\u00a0 Plus, Lindsey Duke!\u00a0 God. Damn.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4. Cleveland<\/td>\nJohnny Manziel (QB, Texas A&M): <\/strong>Cleveland\u2019s in the same boat in Jacksonville (as if Cleveland needed another reason to be depressed).\u00a0 The Brandon Weeden Experience is over, and this organization needs a spark.\u00a0 Who better than man-whore Johnny Football?\u00a0<\/td>\nJohnny Manziel (QB, Texas A&M): <\/strong>I actually like Brian Hoyer, but his largest support (Mike Lombardi) was chased out of town along with the rest of the coaching staff and front office.\u00a0 Johnny Football makes this franchise relevant.\u00a0 Welcome to Cleveland.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

5. Oakland<\/td>\nSammy Watkins (WR, Clemson):<\/strong>
\nSammy Watkins stock continues to rise.\u00a0 Mark my words:\u00a0 he\u2019s going to be a Top 5 pick.\u00a0 I could really make an argument for St. Louis taking him #2.\u00a0 But if he\u2019s here at 5, Da Raiders will not be able to pass him up.\u00a0 The ghost of Al Davis lives on.\u00a0<\/td>\n		Sammy Watkins (WR, Clemson):<\/strong>\u00a0 Ginger has been on this kids bandwagon since his high school days; mainly because he has a thing for high school boys, but also because Watkins is a freak!\u00a0 He’ll have a tough time developing into a #1 WR, but that has everything to do with Oakland and nothing to do with Sammy.\u00a0 This pick is Al Davis approved.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
6. Atlanta<\/td>\nAnthony Barr (DE, UCLA): <\/strong>Atlanta must go defense here.\u00a0 They were exposed last year\u2026big time.\u00a0 Christ, Geno Smith led a game winning drive against them.\u00a0 They need to get younger quick.\u00a0 Khalil Mack is tempting, but their bigger need as at the ends.\u00a0<\/td>\nKhalil Mack (LB, Buffalo): <\/strong>Mack is the superior prospect to Barr.\u00a0 Hell, you can debate the merits of Mack with Clowney if you’d like.\u00a0 UB’s finest!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
7. Tampa Bay<\/td>\nKhalil Mack (LB, Buffalo):<\/strong>
\nIf Mack is still on the board, Tampa takes about 3 seconds to make this pick.\u00a0 Hitler Youth Man of the Year Greg Schiano\u00a0is gone, as is Darrelle\u00a0Revis\u00a0(we told you that trade was awful).\u00a0 Anyway, Mack will remind everyone of Derrick Brooks, and will instantly become the leader on defense.<\/td>\n		Teddy Bridgewater (QB, Louisville): <\/strong>This pick seems weird, right?\u00a0 But this could be the perfect landing spot for both player and team.\u00a0 The Bucs can role with Josh McCown as the steady veteran and give bridgewater a year of grooming (and weight training).\u00a0 Or, a dark horse (Tennessee, Arizona, KC) could move in front of the Vikings to grab perhaps the best QB of this class.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n

8. Minnesota<\/td>\nBlake Bortles\u00a0(QB, UCF): <\/strong>Resigning Matt Cassel is not the long term\u00a0answer, but he does give the Vikings time to bring someone in to groom.\u00a0 The man would be Blake Bortles.\u00a0 He has the prototypical size for a QB, and the hottest girlfriend in the Draft.<\/td>\nHa Ha Clinton-Dix (S, Alabama): <\/strong>Last years draft proved that Rick Spielman is a slave to his board.\u00a0 He’ll take the best player available, either Clinton-Dix or Anthony Barr.\u00a0 Don’t be surprised to see HHCD go this high.\u00a0 Playmaking safetys with good range are highly valuable in today’s league.\u00a0 Mar Barron went #7 overall in 2012.\u00a0 The Saints just gave Jarius Byrd $50 million.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
9. Buffalo<\/td>\nGreg Robinson (OT, Auburn):<\/strong>
\nRobinson is giving Mathews a run for his money as the top offensive lineman.\u00a0 As the Draft gets closer, it\u2019s very likely that Robinson will be gone by now.\u00a0 But Buffalo could sure use an upgrade on the line.\u00a0<\/td>\n		Jake Mathews (OT, Texas A&M): <\/strong>The Bills land a stud OT in my mock too.\u00a0 Matthews paired with Cordy Glenn should provide the Bills with stud bookend tackles for the next decade.\u00a0 Although the Bills probably won’t pay either when their rookie deals expire.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

10. Detroit<\/td>\nJustin Gilbert (CB, Oklahoma St): <\/strong>The Lions need a shutdown corner.\u00a0 This is a perfect need\/value pick, as Gilbert is the consensus top corner in the Draft.<\/td>\nDarqueze Dennard (CB, Michigan St.): <\/strong>Not only do we differ on the top OT, but also the top rated corner.\u00a0 Dennard’s game tape is too impressive; he’ll be the first corner taken this year.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
11. Tennessee<\/td>\nTimmy Jernigan (NT, Florida St.):<\/strong>
\nIf one of the Top 3 QBs\u00a0slide, the Titans will think long and hard about ending the Jake Locker Experience.\u00a0 Shoring up the interior of the defense isn\u2019t a bad consolation prize, as Jernigan is a beast.<\/td>\n		Justin Gilbert (CB, Oklahoma St): <\/strong>And the Cornerback run is on!\u00a0 This CB class is deep, so it could come down to the type of scheme the team plays on running.\u00a0 Gilbert has the make-up of a number one corner.\u00a0 The Titans just happen to need one of those!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
12. NYG<\/td>\nTaylor Lewan (OT, Michigan):<\/strong>
\nLewan\u00a0really raised his stock with his solid performance at the Combine.\u00a0 The guy\u2019s a mauler, and is the definition of a \u201cplay through the whistle\u201d player.\u00a0 Sure, he\u2019s Richie Incognito 2.0, but the G-Men need to get mean and nasty on the line.\u00a0 Defensive line is also a need (after losing Tuck in free agency) but the Giant\u2019s recipe for success is clear:\u00a0 Protect Eli = win.\u00a0 Don\u2019t protect Eli = lose.\u00a0 Sometimes, it is that simple.<\/td>\n		Anthony Barr (DE, UCLA):<\/strong>
\nSorry Eli, but Jerry Reese won’t be able to help himself.\u00a0 First-round DE’s are this thing.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
