Nick Saban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You know the old saying:\u00a0 teabags come in three.\u00a0 Well, that certainly holds true this week, as there are a triumvirate of teabagable head coaches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First up, Jason Kidd (how much longer can we call him coach?) for his drink spill timeout (see below).\u00a0 I\u2019ve seen better acting on the CW (don\u2019t hate on The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural).\u00a0 Kidd was fined $50,000 for his antics but his real penalty is continuing to be coach of the Nets<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Jason-Kidd.gif?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1308\" alt=\"Jason Kidd\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Jason-Kidd.gif?resize=500%2C277&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"500\" height=\"277\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next up, Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin, on Thanksgiving Night, for his inexplicable entrance onto the field, which coincidentally (wink) just happened to be the exact moment Jacoby Jones was running down the sideline returning a kickoff for a touchdown.\u00a0 Tomlin explained he was trying to get a <a href=\"https:\/\/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com\/2013\/11\/29\/tomlin-says-i-lost-my-placement-while-watching-return-on-jumbotron\/\">better view of the jumbotron<\/a>.\u00a0 Really?\u00a0 Were they doing the Kissing Cam?\u00a0 Is there a better seat in the house than on the sidelines?\u00a0 The NFL has yet to hand down a penalty, but we all know RGI doesn\u2019t like when people mess with the integrity of the game.\u00a0 Machine\u2019s guess:\u00a0 $100k fine (no loss of draft pick) and that\u2019s taking into account Tomlin\u2019s solid reputation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But the real teabag winner this week is Nick Saban, head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.\u00a0 We\u2019ve all seen the highlights; those of us who watched it live are still in awe.\u00a0 Here it is again:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iframewidth=560height=315src=\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y0ghgkRFP38frameborder=0allowfullscreen\/iframe\">https:\/\/<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y0ghgkRFP38\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This entire college football season (until Saturday) was summed up as: what team will lose to Alabama in the National Championship Game?\u00a0 There was this feeling of inevitability.\u00a0 Saban is the Bill Belechik\u00a0of College Football (circa 2003), and Bama\u00a0was just going through the motions on its way to a third straight national championship.\u00a0 But who knew Saban was actually Bill Belechik circa 2007 (18-1, bitches!).\u00a0 Make no mistake:\u00a0 Nick Saban lost that game for Alabama, with a series of questionable coaching decisions.\u00a0 Late in the fourth quarter, with the Tide up 7, Saban decides to go for it on 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 1 from the 13 yard line, instead of kicking a (short) 30 yard FG.\u00a0 Sure, his kicker had already missed two, but being up 2 scores is worth it.\u00a0 FYI, prior to Saturday, your kicker had never missed a FG\u00a0shorter than 40 yards, so chances are good he hits from 30\u2026or, how about you decide to switch kickers then, instead of bringing the new guy in to try a 57 yard FG\u00a0when he\u2019s only made one FG\u00a0in his entire career, which was 20 yards, btw.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Knowing that there was a good chance that the FG would be short, Saban should have put some players on the field that would be able to defend against a potential return.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t, and The Machine ventures to guess it\u2019s because of his extreme arrogance and feeling of superiority.\u00a0 That arrogance and superiority has helped Saban to build his program into what it is (they\u2019re still the best team in the country).\u00a0 But when that ego grows too large, you begin to think that no one can beat you, no matter what.\u00a0 Therefore, any decision you make will be the right one.\u00a0 Sorry Nick, enjoy your big fat piece of humble pie.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1310\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Nick-Saban.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1310\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1310\" alt=\"It's not my fault the players choked!\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Nick-Saban-300x187.jpg?resize=300%2C187&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Nick-Saban.jpg?resize=300%2C187&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Nick-Saban.jpg?resize=480%2C300&amp;ssl=1 480w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Nick-Saban.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1310\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">It&#8217;s not my fault the players choked!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>What\u2019s even worse was his comments after the game, where he basically threw his players (read: college kids) under the bus.\u00a0 On Auburn\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2013\/12\/02\/alabama-coach-nick-saban-s-folly-great-coaches-protect-their-players.html#url=\/articles\/2013\/12\/02\/alabama-coach-nick-saban-s-folly-great-coaches-protect-their-players.html\">touchdown tying drive<\/a>\u00a0with 32 seconds left:\u00a0 \u201cThe corner is suppose to\u00a0stay with the guy. The corner did not stay with the guy. You have to have tremendous discipline to play against this offense. We made a mental error in coverage that cost us a touchdown.\u201d\u00a0 Way to stand behind your players.\u00a0 On Adam Griffith, the redshirt freshman who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al.com\/alabamafootball\/index.ssf\/2013\/11\/decisions_to_kick_not_to_kick.html\">missed the 57 yard FG<\/a>:\u00a0 \u201cGriff makes them from 60 yards in practice so there was a shot.\u201d\u00a0 Great, so now Griff\u2019s a choker who can\u2019t kick when it counts.\u00a0 On Cade Foster, his kicker that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2013\/12\/02\/alabama-coach-nick-saban-s-folly-great-coaches-protect-their-players.html#url=\/articles\/2013\/12\/02\/alabama-coach-nick-saban-s-folly-great-coaches-protect-their-players.html\">missed 3 FG<\/a> during the game:\u00a0 \u201cThe fact of the matter is that we did not make plays when we needed to. \u00a0Whether it was a made field goal with a penalty or a missed field goal after that.\u201d\u00a0 Thanks, Coach, you know that kicker is receiving <a href=\"https:\/\/keepingscore.blogs.time.com\/2013\/12\/01\/alabama-football-fans-send-death-threats-to-cade-foster\/\">death threats<\/a>, right?<\/p>\n<p>The fact that Saban, instead of standing behind his players (how about highlighting the fact that Cade Foster had made 11 consecutive FG and had only missed one all season) and instead of putting the blame on his shoulders, blamed his 18-22 year old players for poor execution is pathetic, and shows that there is no end to his arrogance (he couldn\u2019t possibly have contributed to the loss, right?).\u00a0 Saban may be revered as God-like in Tuscaloosa, but he showed his true colors in the aftermath of Saturday\u2019s game.\u00a0 And make no mistake, crazy obsessed Alabama fans:\u00a0 Saban will bolt as soon as he feels his status as God has been diminished, and will go somewhere that will put him back to God status.\u00a0 Hello, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>But for now, just live with the fact that he, and he alone, is responsible for ruining your season\/life (and McCarron&#8217;s chance at the Heisman).\u00a0 But at lease now you and Nick Saban have something in common:\u00a0 you\u2019ll both be watching the National Championship on TV this year.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your teabag.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You know the old saying:\u00a0 teabags come in three.\u00a0 Well, that certainly holds true this week, as there are a triumvirate of teabagable head coaches.\u00a0 First up, Jason Kidd (how much longer can we call him coach?) for his drink &hellip;
