{"id":1178,"date":"2013-11-02T08:42:26","date_gmt":"2013-11-02T12:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/?p=1178"},"modified":"2013-11-02T08:42:26","modified_gmt":"2013-11-02T12:42:26","slug":"week-9-fantasy-waiver-wire-pick-ups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bigredsportsmachine.com\/?p=1178","title":{"rendered":"Week 9 &#8211; Fantasy Waiver Wire Pick Ups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As all us fantasy nerds know, picking up guys on the waiver wire is a crap shoot.\u00a0 You\u2019re a triage doctor (yes, we equate managing a fantasy football team with performing emergency medical procedures) trying to stop the bleeding so your patient can live another day.\u00a0 Or (perhaps a more appropriate analogy) you need a slump buster, a quick hit to get your team back in the game.\u00a0 Either way, it\u2019s a temporary, stop-gap\u00a0measure.\u00a0 The name of the game is to find someone who\u00a0can give you double-digit points, and it\u2019s always hit or miss.\u00a0 However, loyal readers of The Machine are rewarded with more hits than misses.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, we hit on two of our waiver wire picks ups.\u00a0 What Terrelle\u00a0Pryor didn\u2019t do in the air (88\/0\/2) he certainly made up for it on the ground, rushing for 106 yards and a touchdown, including this record-breaking 93 yard run:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iframewidth=420height=315src=\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/97pmnxpx0dAframeborder=0allowfullscreen\/iframe\">https:\/\/<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/97pmnxpx0dA\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brandon Boldin\u00a0also posted double-digit\u00a0numbers, rushing for a touchdown in the Pats come from behind win agaist\u00a0Miami.\u00a0 Sure, we struck out (big time) with Chris Ivory and Jerome Kerley (we knew recommending Jets players was a bad idea) but we hope you found a spot on your roster for Andre Brown (if not, get him now).<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, on to his weeks\u2019 waiver wire pick-ups.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1179\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bigredsportsmachine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Dexter-McCluster.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1179\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1179\" alt=\"Dexter could be your savior. If you&#8217;re a Blackmon owner, get him now.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Dexter McCluster, WR Kansas City (% owned in Yahoo Fantasy League, 18%)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Is your team in desperate need of a WR, either because of a bye week or because Justin Blackmon\u00a0can\u2019t put down the pipe?\u00a0 Well Dexter\u2019s your answer.\u00a0 Frankly, The Machine is shocked that Dexter is only owned in 18% of leagues.\u00a0 That is guaranteed to double by next week.\u00a0 Dexter is quickly becoming Alex \u201cCaptain Checkdown\u201d Smith\u2019s favorite target.\u00a0 After starting the season slow, Dexter has turned it on lately, posting consecutive double-digit performances, including a solid 20+ point game last week, going 7\/67\/1 and leading the team with 10 targets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With Dwayne Bowe a complete failure, and Alex Smith unable to throw the ball more than 10 yards, Dexter is the number one receiving option in Kansas City.\u00a0 We like his chances this week against a Buffalo D that id=\"caption-attachment-1180\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jake, when healthy, has put up surprisingly solid numbers.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Jake Locker, QB Tennessee (36%)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Machine was shocked to see that Jake is still available in over 60% of leagues.\u00a0 Clearly, he hasn\u2019t reached everyday starter status, and injuries have only allowed him to only play 5 games so far, but he\u2019s definitely worth a spot on your bench, and, if you need a qb\u00a0this week, Jake the Snake has a great matchup against St. Louis.\u00a0 Jake has proven to be turnover resistant, throwing only 1 int all year, compared with 9 total tds\u00a0(8 passing, 1 rushing).\u00a0 All in 5 games.\u00a0 In his last start 2 weeks ago, Jake had a breakout game and went 326\/2\/1 against a tough 49ers\u00a0D.\u00a0 We like his chances against the Rams this week.\u00a0 He\u2019s also got the ability to pick up points on the ground, and is worth a start if you need a qb this week.<\/p>\n<div happier to see Jake back on the field than Nate Washington.\u00a0 In 5 games with Jake behind center, Nasty Nate\u2019s averaged double-digit\u00a0fantasy numbers, 4.4\/78.\u00a0 In the 2 games without Jake, he\u2019s averaged single digits, 2\/22.5.\u00a0 Not surprisingly, his 2 tds\u00a0this year have come from Jake.\u00a0 Needless to say, Nate should be able to reach double-digit numbers aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1182\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1182\" alt=\"Always a hit or miss, but we like Moore's chances against the Jets.\" id=\"caption-attachment-1182\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Always a hit or miss, but we like Moore&#8217;s chances against the Jets.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Lance Moore, WR New Orleans (40%)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Caution:\u00a0 starting any Saints receiver not named Graham is a risk.\u00a0 They are all boom or bust, including Moore, who\u2019s been beset by the injury bug and has only played in 4 games so far.\u00a0 After a 4 week absence, Moore was back on the field and posted a respectable 3\/34\/1.\u00a0 While the yardage total was low, Moore had more targets than Graham (4 to 3) and Brees\u00a0likes to use him in the redzone.\u00a0 Also, Moore was tied for 1<sup>st<\/sup> in receptions.\u00a0 The only problem there is that he was tied with 5 other players.\u00a0 That\u2019s the problem with starting any receiver not named Graham.\u00a0 And while we also like Kenny Stills (although he\u2019s now owned in 70% (verify) of leagues so probably not an option for you at this point) we like Moore\u2019s shiftiness as a slot receiver against the Jets, who historically are not good matching up against slot receivers.\u00a0 This, in our humble\/expert opinion, gives Moore the edge over Stills this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because of Moore\u2019s (and every receiver not named Graham\u2019s) boom or bust tendencies, there are other WRs out there we like (Dexter or Nate).\u00a0 But if they\u2019re gone, or you just like rolling the dice, Lance is your guy.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1183\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a id=\"caption-attachment-1183\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coby should see an increase in targets.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Coby\u00a0Fleener, TE, Indy (46%)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a Julius Thomas or Vernon Davis owner looking for a replacement this week, or perhaps stuck with a TE that has been putting up inconsistent numbers (Kyle Rudolph) Coby\u00a0Fleener\u00a0provides an attractive option for you.\u00a0 With Reggie Wayne out for the year, Andrew Luck will need someone else to throw the ball to.\u00a0 And while that means DHB\u00a0should get more touches, he is wildly inconsistent (and our sources tell us nursing a hamstring injury \u2013 verify).\u00a0 This puts Fleener, Andrew\u2019s college roommate and safety valve, at the top of our list to see an increased workload in Indy\u2019s
